"Mesa de los Santos" at the front wave of a new coffee trend MESA DE LOS SANTOS organic coffee: Winner of the New Ventures Environmental Business Competition "Mesa de los Santos" organic coffee, is based on three pillars: quality, sustainability and social responsibility. These pillars have combined to make a special organic coffee, leader in the North American market.
Thanks to these three factors "Mesa de los Santos" organic coffee was awarded with the first price in the New Ventures Investor Forum. It has proved to be an enterprise of the new millenium.

Rio de Janeiro, September 26/2000

"Mesa de los Santos" is the first organic Colombian coffee, distributed in North America and the winner of the New Ventures Environmental Business Competition, organized by The World Resources Institute of Washington D.C. (www.wri.org).

This competition began with more than 200 projects from 15 countries in Latin America. It seeks to promote profitable enterprises that center their actions in environmental and social responsibility.

"Mesa de los Santos" organic coffee is just such an example. Its high quality is the result of a natural production process on a Colombian coffee farm including constant land recovery, an improvement of the environmental setting and comprehensive community development (its differentiating hallmark and principal priority).

The quality, consistency and integrity of "Mesa de los Santos" Colombian organic coffee explains why this coffee has skyrocketing sales and demands the highest price in the organic market in the United States and Canada.

Experts agree that the quality and flavor of "Mesa de los Santos" is superior: David Kastle, of Royal Coffee of San Francisco, California (a firm specialized in distributing special coffees to the roaster companies in North America) says that, "Mesa de los Santos organic coffee is the best cupping Colombian coffee I have tasted. As with most origins coffees from the various regions in Colombia, can vary widely in quality throughout the year. The cup quality and preparation of Mesa de los Santos has remained consistent or improved from delivery to delivery during the past eighteen months. I can think of few sources that so successfully pursue excellence. I have had to customers switch from conventional Colombian coffee to Mesa de los Santos organics, not because they wanted organic coffees but rather because they have cupped several Colombian coffees and concluded that Mesa de los Santos was the best"

A PERFECT SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN NATURE AND MAN

Optimum control is exercised over the productive cycle at the coffee farm where "Mesa de los Santos" is produced. Control starts with the preparation of the seeds and the production of organic fertilizer and ends with personalized attention to the buyers and roasters abroad.

The key to the success of this special coffee is found by looking to the past. Traditional processes used by Colombian farmers at the beginning of the 20th century to cultivate the coffee plants are used by the farm that produces "Mesa de los Santos." Everything is one hundred percent ecological: coffee is planted in high clean lands, under natural shade, irrigated with pure spring water and no chemicals are used, only natural fertilizers.

"Our work philosophy is based on producing an organic coffee of insuperable qualities, based on a perfect symbiosis between nature and man," states Oswaldo Acevedo, representative of the production firm, Telmo J. Díaz and Company. "Mesa de los Santos" coffee grows in a perfect climate that gives it its unique taste and smell.

The rising water levels of the streams and the growing presence of birds, insects, reptiles and mammals is due to the thousands of native trees on the farm. The trees protect coffee plants from the scorching sun and control humidity, and are home to a great variety of migrating and resident birds, which in turn control the presence of harmful insects.

Because of these efforts "Mesa de los Santos" is the only coffee in Colombia to be granted the ultimate award for ecological awareness the Bird Friendly seal from the prestigious Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center.

For "Mesa de los Santos" coffee, social responsibility carries an equal or even greater importance than quality and sustainability. The company creates well paying jobs assuring health, education, and social security for the inhabitants of the region, improving their living conditions.

"Our organic coffee, "Mesa de los Santos" has demonstrated that environmental consciousness, social responsibility and profitability can be combined to construct a successful enterprise. This is an authentic gourmet coffee, which, thanks to its flavor and delicious taste, has turned into one of the most appetizing coffees in the North American market," said Oswaldo Acevedo.
